Letter from Center of Medicare and Medicare Services

You may have received a letter in early March, explaining that you are enrolled in a "Poor Performing Medicare Advantage Plan" and extending any opportunity to drop your current plan and enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan that is rated "Three Stars" or Better.

I am very happy with my Medicare Advantage and don’t want to make any changes. But then I got a letter from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The first line is “Important Information About Your Medicare Plan Options.” Can you tell me what this center is and what this letter means to me?

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)

Is the branch of the federal government that’s in charge of the Medicare program. You got this letter because CMS has identified your plan as a “Consistent Poor Performer.” That means the plan has received an overall quality rating of less than three stars for at least three years.

CMS encourages those in a poor performing plan to Drop your plan and enroll in a plan rated "Three Stars" or better. You have was is defined as a SEP, Special Enrollment Period, to enroll in another plan..
